Do or (Would) you feel safe in America with current gun laws?

I'd probably feel safer without "gun-free zones" (which do nothing to deter wrongdoers while disarming law-abiding citizens) and some of the current regulation, but I feel safe regardless. Granted, I don't like in a city where gun violence is a constant problem so I'm far less likely to be exposed to it.

Otherwise I'm in favor of universal background checks.

Theres more guns than people in the US

A scare tactic that isn't a particularly meaningful statistic, considering that gun collectors and the US military are a thing. The total number of guns by itself isn't a great indication of the availability of guns. Many of the nations with the highest rate of gun violence have substantially fewer guns than people. Out of the top 5 nations for gun homicides, 3-4 have fewer than 10 guns per 100 people. In terms of gun ownership, some of the nations with the most guns-per-people rank near the bottom of the list, including Iceland and Norway which each have more than 30 guns-per-person

afaik, the US is the only nation in the world with more guns than people but the US is a military manufacturer.

unfettered and unregulated manufacturing of weapons needs to stop

If weapons refers just to guns, they are regulated. For starters, the National Firearms Act and the Federal Firearms Act have been around since the 1930s. Since then, you've had other federal legislation as well (including laws regulating gun materials so manufacturers can't make guns that can pass through a metal detector). That's not counting regulation at the state level.

Unless you're talking about hobbyists who build guns on their own? Because just about anybody with a little know-how can construct a gun. Those usually aren't the ones used in illegal activities. If you're talking about 3D printed guns, that's something that needs some kind of regulation and, at the moment, there's
