Nobody's arguing this isn't a match between volume and density. For better or worse, we're left to choose which is the proper way to determine what is "most quotable." I personally think that favors density, provided there's a sufficient critical mass. (No memes.) As such, I think The Simpsons is a pretty poor champion. I can't tell everyone voting for The Simpsons that they're wrong, though, just as if the match were reversed, they couldn't tell me that I'm wrong for voting The Princess Bride.

I just come back to the word "quotable," though, and even if there are a lot of references in The Simpsons, and I am arguably more likely to use one of them than a TPB quote simply because they are more varied in nature and often far more generic in topic, I also find that people are a lot less likely to get the reference. There are simply so many Simpsons episodes that it's rare to encounter someone who has watched the same breadth of episodes you have. It's like making SNL references. Saturday Night Live wasn't even nominated, I don't think.
