okay, so Gendo only invited Shinji here because he has to pilot the EVA and kill the angels and loves to manipulate his child's emotions to get what he wants. Misato is the only one who seems to think this is fucked up, but quickly begins to understand the options are limited and starts condescending to Shinji to be a big boy and things like that.
