And I got a good enough reception, and I enjoyed it enough that I decided to do some more. I was conflicted in whether I should start with this or the genre I'll probably do next. Day One: Sonic Youth - Teenage Riot Known as one of the most pivotal, most important stepping stones in the alternative rock scene Sonic Youth debuted with 1982s Sonic Youth EP. Although their early years are mired in the fading trappings of the post-punk era, they would quickly switch to a more conventional sound that found them mixing guitar distortion with lofty vocals not unlike the downward casting heads of shoegazing.
