What do you mean eat like shit? If you have a healthy lunch every day (Lets say a low carb wrap) and a light dinner, are you allowed to gorge on a 7oz bag of chips on the weekends? Are you allowed to drink a diet soda at lunch? I don't know, I just reflecting my personal experiences (I have no health issues, and I do these things).

On average, at least in the west, people just just consume far more sugar, salt, and fat. Increases average obesity, rates of diabetes (who start at much lower ages now), blood pressure, etc. Compounded with people being sedentary and doing little activity... Well, you got a recipe for disaster. A "cheat" once in a while is actually perfectly acceptable, it's a thing that allowed my diets to work over a long period of time, but the problem is that people don't cheat: they eat like trash all the time.
