I never played it as Legends. last time I played was before that. I wanted to love the game but it was just so hard. I never even was able to get out of the first zone. that new england forest town place with zombies. I once found the entrance to the neighboring zone but everything was too powerful for me, so I went back. that game is hard cause you don't level up. you have to slowly collect power through your equipment which I am not good at.

I had the same problem the first time I started TSW to be honest.

Then they released a fairly game changing overhaul that actually reduced the difficulty of enemies so that it was easier to advance beyond the first map, and that's when I really got into it and started exploring builds and everything.

With Secret World Legends they reworked a lot of stuff and it is a lot easier now, for better or worse. For instance, they got rid of skill synergies and the ability wheel which I really enjoyed working on. They got rid of a ton of abilities overall, and when they relaunched it as SWL it required more grinding for a free player to switch and develop other weapons and abilities (in the original game it was fairly easy, you would just drop the money on a sufficiently strong weapon and unlock the abilities you wanted and away you went). I don't know how it is now if they tweaked that at all.

But yeah, the difficulty is more manageable and combat has been tweaked. Now each weapon has a certain gimmick mechanic to it.

For instance, Shotgun shells come with different effects. When you use a Shotgun ability, it uses up your ammo and when you've used all the ammo, all Shotgun abilities turn into an ammunition selection. It's random, but basically the more SG abilities you have slotted, the better chance you have of getting the type of ammo you want.

IIRC Hammers just build up a rage meter and then you unleash the rage and do a ton of damage. With Assault Rifles, abilities have a chance of loading a grenade into your launcher and then you have to use a grenade ability to fire it (that always kinda bugged me).

My favorite is Chaos just because it doesn't require a lot of micromanagement and the whole thing is weird as hell. Whenever you do Chaos damage divisible by 8 it generates 2-4 "Paradoxes", and once you get 8 Paradoxes it triggers a random effect... One of those is spawning a Doppelganger, and you can find weapons and there are passives you can use to spawn even more Doppelgangers. It's really broken and hella fun.
