Unless you're playing 20+ year old games, you should be able to play basically anything with a mid-end set up.

In my experience, this has literally never been true.

More specifically, if you're just buying your PC off the shelf, PC gaming is going to be far more trouble than its worth. There's almost always some level of effort required to adjust settings or download different drivers or to keep your specs upgraded to run games at anything other than the shittiest settings. And that's before you get into things like some PC ports being horrific clusterfucks compared to console releases (ie, Arkham Knight), or pretty much anything multiplayer being a nightmarish horror show due to hacking (I used to enjoy GTA Online on the PS4, but you couldn't pay me enough to play it on PC).

I've owned a few PC-exclusive games in the past, and it's always been a hassle to run any of them. Some of them I've literally never been able to play, across multiple computers over a span of 20 years. Generally speaking, you're either going to have to buy spec-built PCs that cost ~$1000 or more, or are going to need to build your own PC. And you're still going to have to upgrade on a fairly regular basis, because the PC that ran games perfectly today isn't necessarily going to be able to handle stuff released 2-3 years from now.

This HAS gotten better over the last decade or so (as the pace of PC tech improvement/growth has slowed), but it's still an issue.

You can just hook up your PC to your TV and run SteamOS.

Except I would never do that, for multiple reasons.

First off, there's the aforementioned distaste for PC gaming, developed over decades worth of bad experiences. Even if PC gaming was absolutely perfected at this point, it's still difficult to overcome 35+ years worth of negative biases.

Secondly, those same 35+ years of gaming experience involve playing with a controller 99% of the time. Because of that, all of my reflexes and habits are geared to using a controller, to the point where I LOATHE playing any game with keyboard/mouse controls. Yes, lots of PC games either come with built-in controller support or can be mapped, but it often winds up being somewhat awkward or flawed. So that's another hassle added to existing hassles that discourage from even wanting to try.

And thirdly, Steam can go fuck itself.

It's not really a case of one major problem that can theoretically be solved as much as it is a case of dozens of minor issues I have with PC gaming that all add up to make the idea completely unappealing. And no matter how often PC Master Race types froth at the mouth and rant about how all of my personal opinions are wrong, it's not something anyone is ever going to talk me out of.

Yeah you reminded me another reason I dont do pc. Ive like seen one or two exclusives I was interested in. 9 times out of 10 the exclusives I want are consoles. Only thing thats not on consoles I want that i can think of is shadowrun returns and i think there was another shadowrun or it was just a dlc for that one. Also dont care that greatly for mods so thats not really a selling point to me.
