Yea. I feel your less than average smartphone user/owner will not qualify. Even among us who uses social media, some can easily go through a week without checking our Facebook account, Twitter, etc. I'd imagine Frontier want someone that is "addicted" to social media, mobile games, etc.

Plus it'll make for a boring report. I wouldn't want anyone less than a social media "addict" to be the one to take on this challenge.

Yeah my step father recieves job orders and also uses a app to clock in and out of work. He seldom actually sees his boss or co workers face to face except to go and get more parts/tools. So he actually has two smart phones cause his company insists on iphone and he told them he would Only use one if they paid for it. He hates iPhones only part he will praise it for is the camera

My experience related to this is only via our clients who we sometimes send emails and PDFs to for review prior to us progressing with a project and/or finalizing it. I don't know if our clients take laptops with them but there are times they're out doing fieldwork or checking a project site.

Instead of waiting for said client to get back to a computer/get internet access for their laptops, it is nice to get a response in between their travels or during a break while on the field. Same goes for receiving photos of a project site. Getting a feedback within minutes instead of hours can be convenient at times.

This is all doable before smartphones but depending on ones line of work, getting a response within minutes or hours can mean a project getting out that same day or possibly a day or two later. In my line of work, projects are done within days so one or two delay days is a biggy.

Its not that. But they do make things much easier. In many ways. And its like having a computer in your pocket rather than having to find one. Especially in case of an emergency.

Phones last longer than that. And some people (like Adam just said) would benefit by not having to wait. Waiting to get home could delay projects for a few day. Where having instinct access can get the project started and finished sooner...

I think it depends on the person. I keep mine with me all the time. But thats mainly for emergencies. Im not dying out somewhere because I dont want to take my phone with me. But other people also use it for work. You may be able to access to a computer 24/7, but not everybody does. Ive love without a smartphone, and I was fine. But having one does make pretty much everything easier.

I do need to use a smartphone for work. Some of the companies I work with either have apps or a website that you're required to use, or they want photos e-mailed to them, and on occasion I have to scan for WiFi access points.

I'd just have to use my tablet instead of my phone.

He is wrong. One example... You're out and about and getting hungry. "Hey Google, what restaurants are nearby?" Your phone shows you all the different restaurants near you and tells you turn by turn how get there. Your computer back at home can't help you find these things on a whim, while you're out going about your day. If you knew when you were going to get hungry and where you would be at that time you could look it up on your computer before you leave the house. But that's not the same.

And yes, since tablets are essentially just large smart phones, I'm sure they would break the rules. Maybe if it didn't have it's own data connection and still required wifi it would be ok.

Theres road trips, though. Or traveling in general. I know when I was traveling with my mom, we would ask our phones. You can only see so much from the highway. And the signs on the side can only show so many places. A laptop can do that. But only if you were home, or found internet somewhere. Like at a restaurant. By then, its probably to late to check. Driving around is fine for some. I hate wasting gas when I can just ask and get the info I need...

Literally devolved into a smart phone user just 4 months ago because the phone plans were actually cheaper than I was getting w/ my flip phone.

Where the fuck was this deal back then?

I miss my flip phone so much... Flip open phone, hit call button, maybe tap down a few times, hit call. Done. Barely even need to look, you can just feel the buttons w/ tactile senses. Touch screens suck.

I do love the custom ring tones and a camera that's worth a damn, but literally no reason flip phones can't have those things except the makers are too cheap to implement it
