So how strong is the case against Vic anyway, I have not been paying attention

Vic is suing Funimation, Monica Rial and her husband Ron Toye, and Jamie Marchi for defamation and Ron Toye and Monica Rial for tortious interference of a contract.

Currently, the case is extremely strong for Vic, as Funimation has heavily implied in a statement he was fired for sexual harassment. Monica Rial, Ron Toye, and Jamie Marchi all helped lead a campaign of defamation against him, with Ron Toye making over 400 Tweets about him. Monica Rial and Jamie Marchi claimed he sexually assaulted them each, but when they had the opportunity to tell this to Sony's HR when an investigation was being created, the only thing that they brought up was that Vic once made a bad dad joke about "Eating Monica" after she signed a jelly bean with her name on it and threw it at him six years ago at a signing.

Kamehacon released a bunch of information to Vic's lawyer, and various others have done so as well, of Ron Toye and Monica Rial interfering with his contracts. In particular, a large portion of the conversation was leaked where Ron had apparently offered his company to do a $25k sponsorship, then proceeded to tell them they would have to pull out if Vic was still invited, stating that while the investigation that was still ongoing, Vic was going to be fired and arrested for sexual assault. The Kamehacon owner asked him if he was positive, and Ron confirmed it was a sure thing. This is textbook tortious interference and Ron confirmed this conversation happened. Also worth noting is that the investigation was really bad and nothing was really considered sexual harassment that was investigated, and it was inconclusive.

There is also a ton of other information that Vic's counsel supporting this, and by the time depositions are revealed, they will need to honestly answer questions about what they've done, and with physical evidence of them being dishonest about what they have done this whole time, it's unlikely they'll win.

Running theory is they want Ron and Monica to claim they are agents of Funimation, which would just mean they were speaking on their behalf. This would mean that Funimation would have to pay the entire amount of damages for them, and they could later sue them to recoup. However, Funimation got an extension on their Answer to Complaint, meaning they can wait to see what happens with Ron and Monica and Marchi to decide what they want to do. And since their filings have been alarmingly bad, evidencing indicating they don't have a strong defense, Funimation will probably settle with Vic to escape paying for Ron and Monica's fees.

That's about the best summary I have.
