Any mind altering substance is a gateway drug, i'd say even alcohol to some extent, or perscription drugs.

So yeah, that includes pot.

If you take things to get high, altered etc, and enjoy it, your more likely to try other things that have a similar effect, or.......you may just get high and then not be thinking clearly and try em.

So yeah, it's a gateway drug....because it's a freaking drug.
