The whole Brexit mess is a great example of why in the U.S., any sweeping changes of the level that it requires an amendment to the Constitution or such, generally requires an overwhelming 2/3 or even 3/4 portion of the vote.

Brexit was to radically change the entire economic and foreign policy position of the UK, and it fucking passed on 52% to 48%, with scores of voters admitting they weren't particularly informed of what sort of impacts Brexit would even have.

Anyone w/ half a brain could tell it was going to be a complete train wreck the second they saw the vote percentages. Half the country didn't even want to do it. And who knows how many who voted for it even had the faintest idea how deep the repercussions could be?
