I'd say Braveheart is the daddy of these types of films. I think BH and Gladiator performed well with the awards due to the subversion of catharsis and choreography. Gladiator's "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?" line is amazing and in my mind changes the movie. I was so close to including Braveheart in the Top 250 and probably will regret not doing so.
