Premium watches are a status symbol, nothing more.

This.

no, they're not. they can be used as a status symbol...but that is not exclusively what it is. it's about craftsmanship. i can type out an essay about how/why rolex is worth the amount it is. a well made watch isn't something that's made for $25 cents by workers in sweatshops. some parts need to be hand made. it definitely needs to be hand checked and regulated. these things cost time and money (no, not 10k worth, but way more than you'd think).

it's the same reason why nice cars are more expensive...they are constructed in a way that makes them work differently/better than cheaper cars. they can be used as a status symbol since only those who have the money can afford them. but there's a reason they cost that much, and that isn't exclusively due to the brand name (unlike nike, etc)

some people just don't understand those reasons, but i do and i appreciate them.

this

just because you guys don't understand and appreciate the craftsmanship doesn't mean that it doesn't exist and that it is what is driving the cost
