I believe for undergratuates the max student loans you can take out per year is $12,500.

If that school you want to go to costs 20k per year, then you need to come up with $7,500 a year yourself. Which is cake while going to college (especially the first 2 years).

If it's 20k total for 2 years, you can actually get all that in student loans (not that I would ever suggest you do that).

If you do a typical m/w/f schedule at college for an AA (your classes are all on those days), you could just work tuesday/thursday/sat/sunday even at a minimum wage job, rent a room and still pay for everything yourself no problem.

$7,500/12 is $650 a month. IF you can't figure out a way to come up with that yourself and you only want to go to the expensive school, then go get a full time job for now and save up the money before going.

Even at min wage you could easily save that up within a year (possibly within 6 months depending on your expenses and your job/hours).

Tons of us went to school/college without student loans and without any help from family etc. College is not work, especially initially, it's mostly partying/playing games and craming right before tests (or writing a 20 page paper the night before it's due), at least that is generally the norm.

When I was getting my Masters degree, I was working full time as a teacher while finishing the credentialing program (which required more hours then normally teaching), taking care of my bed bound/sick wife, and my best friends wife who had just gone through hip and knee replacement surgery.

Wasn't fun, didn't sleep much, but I was in my 40's and I still made it work. Waaay back in the stone ages when I was in my 20's I would generally sleep 2 hours a night on the weekends just to hang out/spend time with friends etc. So much energy when your young....you can do just about anything if you put your mind to it.
