Nah, list almost any place (with a community college...so it can't be totally rural) and I'll find you rooms to rent for $400 or so. I have done it enough at this point I'm confident I can do it anywhere.

There are expections (NY NY of course, and even Brooklyn is hard to get for less then $500 (although I have found a few), The Bay Area CA of course is generally at least $600 for a room etc. Hawaii as well (although there are some amazing rooms there omg).

In general though you can find somewhere to live around $400 a month, usually at that price without your own bathroom. $100 more and it's hard but you can find them with your own bathroom as well.

Not in bad neighborhoods either. I live in an apartment complex and the rent for a 3 bedroom here is a bit under $1200. If you were really trying to save money, you could cordon off the living room and have 4 people live here, for less then $300 a month. There are many places like this as well, so yeah, long as you can find friends etc, you could get aplace like this.

Same goes for most areas, just need to find the cheapest apartments that rent 3 bedrooms and then split it 3 or 4 ways. Even in the more expensive areas (and Olympia is fairly expensive), just by splitting it 4 ways and not having a living room, you could dropit down to what I pay.
