Because we can do more than one thing at a time. Have you met your local politician? Have you considered that it may be worth trying to do something, even if its difficult, to make vulnerable people get murdered not quite so often? Have you considered how splitting already thin resources means nothing gets done? Also government focuses on gun regulation because these events allow them to push an agenda they already had in mind.
