So, my thoughts on Story Mode now that I finished.

Overall, I enjoyed it. It still felt exceedingly lacking though.

I'll try to do the positives first:

Interactions were great. I loved all the interactions, actually. They did a great job with that. The animations and whatnot were really good too. I could watch all the cutscenes over again and still really enjoy it. The characters all had a ton of personality and were enjoyable.

Unfortunately, I need to go to the negatives now.

- It all boils down to the ending, really. Everything gets erased. So what was the point of this storyline if everything is reset at the end except for Liu Kang, Raiden, and Kitana? There's no potential here because it can literally just be anything right now.
- Speaking of potential, everything is reset. Why didn't you just start killing more people left and right? Just straight up murder EVERYONE.
- Why is it that Raiden basically solos all the side villains of the story at the end? I feel like it would have been more meaningful if anyone but him did it.
- Liu Kang's god form... I mean, I heard about this and while it's pretty cool, I think it is a cheap kind of cop out here. I don't know how else you beat Kronika though.
- And Kronika. Not particularly compelling. She seemed simultaneously overpowered to the point she should conceivably never really lose to being so totally not in control. If she can just show up, freeze time, and teleport people at whim, why not just do that to everyone?
- Kitana beating Shao Khan was pretty awesome. I know people seem to be upset about it, and I feel like it deserved a hell of a lot more build up than it got, but it was a good scene and frankly overdue for her to finally take back the throne. Her killing blow seems to be understated by most. She literally gashed his face in. The dude is not surviving that, even if he already took a fist through the chest.
- What is with them completely ditching the story they set up for this game? The first chapter is just all about getting rid of Dark Raiden and the Revenant Rulers. I presume they had another story in mind, but it feels like kind of a waste to just do this for a, frankly, overwrought Kronika story.
- If you are doing time travel, why aren't we just going absolutely insane with it? I can accept certain people not being brought back due to Kronika thinking it would upset her plan as she's seen a ton of variations (can't have that damn Reptile ruining her scheme somehow!), but you know what would make this better? Give us one hundred Kanos. Have a bunch of Johnny Cages. Smother us with this silly nonsense since that's what this story really is.
- There is absolutely nothing to almost all of these villains. Geras is just a giant husk without anything. Kollector gets barely anything except a minor backstory. Kabal barely gets anything. Noob gets nothing. Skarlet gets absolutely no explanation for why she is the way she is now. Frost and Baraka get some, but it doesn't particularly feel great.
- Characters disappearing halfway through the story was just odd. Why write out Kotal, Sonya, and Johnny like that? Them not being at the end felt off.
- Jade felt wasted in this too. Jade being a random Revanant while being missing from the last game is a disappointment. She could have had a more key, unique role because of that. I never got used to her new outfit though. At least make it more green or something.

So yeah, tl;dr is that it was very nice to look at and fun to go through, but has a ton that's lacking in it. Worth playing through though.
