That's comics-only. They've still been doing decent business in the other media.

Not really. They scaled back both animation and video games involving the X-Men while ramping up exposure for the Avengers. They even phased most of them out of Marvel vs Capcom.

Granted, they didn't get Unpersoned as badly as the Fantastic Four did, but Marvel really gave up on them pretty hard for the last decade or so. They more or less openly admitted it (I forget which staffer said it, and I forget the exact wording, but it basically boiled down to "If you have two properties, and with one of them to get back 100% of your profits, and for another you only get part of the profits, which one are you going to spend most of your time promoting?").

For being phased out of MvC, Wolverine is pretty prominently pictured on the box art... oh, right, Infinite is the most recent one, not MvC3. And the absence of Wolverine is pretty insane. (Granted, MvC3 was *still* only 8 years ago and Wolverine will likely appear in the next version of Infinite.)

Granted, I understand the logic of promoting other properties, but the X-Men are probably always going to be a cash cow. And I should mention that, with the obvious exception of LA movies, Marvel in general seemingly hasn't been doing as much as they had in the past.
