I was doing ones that were two levels below me and enemies were just one shotting some of my strongest units. And they were normal units, not hero ones. I usually try to do the gold cheese, but there weren't any when I wanted to finish my missions. I eventually got through with a mission that seemed far easier than the others (don't ask me how or why).
