Since I'm playing and this just happened and is relevant to your U-Material question: They also become possible drops from breaking pots/boxes. I thought that was NG+ only (you can use U-Materials to make Zemurian Ore in NG+) but it just happened for me on Chapter 4 so I guess not. That said the rate is currently awful. It's happened once out of... a lot of times. I remember it being better so I'm guessing it improves as you progress (and maybe the improved rate sticks for NG+ that would explain my thinking.)

So maybe you'll get a few more than I thought. It also means you could hypothetically farm them without combat since breakable stuff returns when you cross a loading zone but I wouldn't recommend the tedium of that (the same holds true for sepith since all sepith types are possible drops from breaking stuff, and the amount increases each chapter)

Also a more general thing I meant to say but I kept forgetting and then didn't want to triple post lol, but generally speaking I think Cold Steel gets better with each chapter (with one exception but it's not a bad chapter imo just kinda a calm before the storm one) so look forward to Chapter 2 (and beyond!)
