KCF's Playoff Power Rankings

1. Miami Dolphins

While they only went 12-4, there is a case to be made that this is the best team of all-time. The Dolphins finished 2nd in total offense, 2nd in points per game, 1st in total defense, 1st in points allowed per game, 1st in point differential at +163, 1st in turnover differential at +22, 1st in def. sacks, their QBs went a combined 27 TDs against 7 INTs, they had the league's leading rusher, etc... all while owning the league's fourth-hardest schedule. While a perennial playoff team and SB threat, anything short of a SB berth might be considered a failure for this team.

2. Dallas Cowboys

The league's hottest team has won 13 consecutive games behind Vince Young and a defense that has been on lockdown these past several weeks. Due to being in the weaker conference, they should be the favorites among all playoff teams to make the Super Bowl (for the fifth straight season). Their only drawback is that they aren't consistently dominant and have played down to their opponents offensively in recent weeks.

3. Indianapolis Colts

Because they aren't a user team, I feel like the league doesn't respect this team like they should. They have been consistent all season. HB Steven Jackson's high volume, less-than-ideal efficiency is really their only weakness, especially with four players having just returned from injury. They may not have a killer edge like, say the Pioneers do with Wilson and Clayton, but this team is much like the Dolphins in which they have a balanced, mistake-free offense and a defense that is frustratingly stingy. A first trip to the AFC Championship is in their grasp.

4. Seattle Seahawks

With the Seahawks locked into the two seed ahead of Week 17, Jablax elected not to try and gain a few extra progression points and sat many his starters, only to get demolished. With a talent gap between them and the Cowboys, that was, in my opinion, the wrong move, and only makes the fight to be the NFC rep in the SB all that much harder for them. This team does have two things going for it, and that is a high-powered passing offense, and a defense that creates lots of turnovers and converts them into points. If there's a team to potentially upset the Cowboys on the road, it's this one.

5. Columbus Pioneers

Normally, I should not have this kind of team this high. I hate to say this ad nauseum, but the game favors defensive teams, and this team's defense was the worst among playoff teams, and likely still so if you take away their worst defensive performance. I can assure you though it has nothing to do with them playing in Columbus. It's that there is no deadlier offensive tandem this season than Russell Wilson and Mark Clayton. They are basically this season's version of Sam Keller and Kelly Campbell, but with Wilson trading a little bit of throwing prowess for flashing his wheels. Those two guys alone are good enough to score a lot of points. If they can hold their opponents to 24 points or less, I like their chances against anybody.

6. Minnesota Vikings

One of the hottest teams entering the postseason, the Vikings once again had a Top 10 O and D, one of five teams with that distinction (Dolphins, Cowboys, Colts, and Broncos). Former MVP QB Josh Portis had a resurgent season, someone finally had the sense to give HB Courtney Lewis a starting gig from Week 1, and this secondary allowed nobody to pass to them. The Vikings have historically underachieved in the playoffs despite their many opportunities. They would have rather faced the Panthers/Bucs here than the underrated Rams, but they have the talent and production of a SB team and are slotted accordingly.
