"Once a skill has been learnt it is always active, regardless of whether it is in your current active skill tree or not."

So yeah all the skills are active once they're learned, the Active branch is just about which one you're leveling. Well, that and also each branch a gives certain bonus when it's the active branch, and the bonus is based off of how many skills in that branch you've learned.

Eg. Shulk's skill tree Intuition gives +2 Agility initially, +5 Agility after the first skill is learned, +15 Agility when the fifth/final skill is learned. But only when that branch is active, so when you switch to Humanity you are no longer getting Intuition's agility boost.

... But if you're only filling up the trees then I take it that's a no on the Skill Linking. Uhhh what button was that *googles*

That, for you to share a select few of a character's skills with another, at the cost of Affinity Coins (which you gain for each Unique Monster you defeat, and each level you gain). By "cost" I don't mean that it's a permanent cost, you de-equip a link and you of course get back the Affinity Coins it cost...

As I said, the greater the character's affinity to each other the more skills they can link, but you also have to take note of the shape of the skill too. No character links with diamond-shaped skills since those are meant to be unique to a character, like Riki's Buy Stuff skill that lets you sell things for 20% more $$$. Also Fiora can't learn any Spikey-shaped skills since that's what all the medium/heavy equipment skills are.

oh right, without Skill Linking you haven't been able to wear heavy armour for a bunch of characters or even I think Medium armour on Riki >_>... Funny since Melia has a skill that boosts Ether defense from Heavy armour, but she can't wear heavy armour unless you link that skill to her from like Sharla, Reyn, or Dunban!
