Write-Up:
One thing I can recognize about Katy Perry is that she knows how to make music that catches on. The problem I have is that most of the time the music doesn't have a lasting effect on me. I do like some of her songs no matter how often I hear them (to be ranked) but then a very large part of her catalog just becomes hard to listen to. The more listens I give, the more flaws I identify with the particular set of preferences I hold against the music. This song for example sounds like nothing but a bunch of shrieky vocals where it once sounded completely harmonic to me. The song is certified "Diamond" because it reached 10 million sales as a single which is amazing if you think about that many folks willing to pay for a single song just in the US alone. I'm not sure why people are always claiming that piracy is so rampant especially when you have examples like this and even moreso the fact that it was and has been available for free right on youtube the whole time. This song actually got nominated for several awards even winning a few. According to the Nielson Broadcast Data Systems this song had the 5th highest number of replays on the radio in 2011.
