I was just talking about this with my cousin the other day.
Hiring someone like Will Smith to play the Genie is wrong if they're just going to make him try to recreate Robin Williams' performance. So I appreciate it that they're going to let him have his own take on the Genie.
That said I DO feel his style of humour is a bit unfitting for the Genie, and this hip-hop thing sounds like it's going to fall hard. But I'll reserve judgement until I see it.
I mean, he is literally just gonna play himself
that is all it means
basically, Will Smith playing Will Smith from Fresh Prince of Bel Air with blue paint on
I know, that's what I'm saying.
I was worried they were just going to force him to be Robin Williams 2.0. Instead they're letting him do his own thing, and now the question is if it will work.
my opinion:
it will be the highlight of the movie
the rest of the movie however may not be very good
