Theres nothing wrong with patients pursuing integrative medicine along with traditional medicine as long as its framed for them correctly. I tell my patients that the vast majority of integrative medicine practices have not been shown to offer statistically significant benefits, but some patients do think it makes them feel better (probably just the placebo effect imo) and save from chiropractic medicine, for the most part would not do harm; therein, if they want to pursue alternative medicine on the side thats fine by me but my first recommendation is always going to lie within evidence based medicine.

Where you run into trouble is when patients blindly follow some of these quacks who offer false promise and make grandiose statements to patients....one of my clinic patients (only in her early 40s) was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and wanted to forgo chemotherapy to try alternative medicine by some fuck in Wisconsin; bunch of bullshit, acupuncture, Aqua therapy, high dose vitamin c, chiropractic, and treated her with an herbal remedy for Lyme disease (she didnt have Lyme disease). Guy convinced her it was a real alternative to chemo and preyed on her fears of the side effects of chemotherapy

I met with her several times as she continued to lose weight and waste away but she maintained that she felt like the alternative medicine was helping. I kept telling her it was not working, her scans were getting worse, to do chemo too if she wanted to give life a shot....she refused.

Died last week, had a big family too. Should be illegal imo
