Alright, here are fifteen 2018 anime that I at least want to remind people of. Some are obscure, others were seen by practically everyone. Some have wide appeal, others might only appeal to me. Regardless, while I don't know how in demand my opinions are, this is mostly just a way for me to kill time at work so I'm going to get started! These are ordered alphabetically.

A.I.C.O.: Incarnation is a sci-fi story about a girl who needs to venture into a containment zone to reach the heart of a hostile, biological burst. There were a lot of things about this that appealed to me. The plot was focused on a singular goal, there were a lot of interesting battles along the way, and the burst provided some neat visuals. The main girl, Aiko, was also someone who I felt had a lot of depth.

A Place Further than the Universe was about a group of girls who strive to become part of an expedition to Antarctica. This show was a decent mix of fun slice-of-life and emotional character moments. The main cast was always a joy to see together and the impact of watching their journey still sticks with me even several months later.

Asobi Asobase is a comedy about three girls who form a club where they try to find fun ways to pass the time. Each episode was divided into skits, and not all of them were winners. However, if you want over-the-top comedy, this is one of the best options of the year!

Dragon Pilot: Hisone & Masotan is about a girl who is chosen to pilot a dragon in the Japanese air force (yes I know that plot is obvious from the title, shut up, these quick descriptions aren't always easy). There's quite a bit of absurdity to this, starting with the girls needing to be eaten to pilot the dragons. That's part of what makes it a fun anime, however, along with the oddball characters and unique art style.

Happy Sugar Life is about a teenager living with a little girl under questionable circumstances, and how she'll do anything to maintain their happy life together. This is one where I imagine the dark tone and concept might turn people away, but those are also the show's strengths if you're in the mood for them. Seeing into the main character's mind and glimpsing how she reacted to things and justified herself was always fascinating for me.

Hinamatsuri is about a psychic girl who drops into the apartment of a Yakuza enforcer. This is primarily a comedy anime, exploring all the ways that premise can be hilarious. However, for something with such a wacky foundation, there were also a surprising amount of moments that managed to get to me because of how real they were. Basically, Hinamatsuri always nailed whatever tone it wanted to convey.

Iroduku: The World in Colors is about a girl who is magically sent into the past. This anime is a slow build, primarily exploring the relationships Hitomi forms in the past. The magical aspect of the setting provides a lot of beautiful moments, however, and in my opinion the relationships between the characters eventually build into something equally as magical provided you have patience and aren't turned off by the more high school drama aspects of it.

Katana Maidens is about two girls who learn a terrifying secret about their organization, which protects the world from supernatural monsters. This is by far the most personal-taste pick on my list, but I just couldn't let 2018 pass without shilling Katana Maidens one final time. There's a lot here to nitpick if you want to, with budget constraints often limiting fight scenes and the second half failing to deliver on the promise of the first. I still feel like Katana Maidens has a solid core, though. The characters are intelligent in pursuit of their goals, which often results in neat moments. There are also times where the budget and all the different elements click together, and those rare instants were so magical.
