When I was in school, you had the lunch you could buy for a dollar (choice of 3 meals typically, and a milk of your choice) or if you couldn't afford that you got a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and skim milk. I was eating that through most of first grade, but it ended up making me sick most days so my mom would just pack a lunch. By the time I got to high school though, I would just skip lunch since I was going home in a couple of hours anyways.

That's some BS free lunch kids at my school got the same thing those of us paid got and we paid closer more than a dollar

When I say that's bs I don't mean youre lying just that it's fucked up

This was 30 years ago mind you. Schools tend to be a little better about their lunch programs now (and inflation).

I also think it got raised to $1.25 sometime around 5th or 6th grade, but I wasn't buying lunches by that point.
