There was no day/night cycle on release so there was no need for sleep. Day and night were difficulty modifiers tied to particular maps...certain dinosaurs would act up more at night than they would during the day and vice versa (still works that way with the new cycle) and it would always be one or the other.

Oh, I see no day/night cycle. No need for sleep! JPOG didn't have one either and guess what? They slept, flocked and even defecated. The Dinos on JWE were machines rather than animals.

"Were" is the key word there. They took people's complaints and added all this stuff to the game, then some.

I think the big issue with the release is that people were expecting a pure park management game with dinosaurs, whereas the focus with JWE is breeding dinos, having them fight gladiator style, and cause general chaos. I mean, two of the core mechanics of the game (sabotage and storms) are designed to fuck up your park. People wanted Zoo Tycoon and they got Cities Skylines with pissed off lizards.
