I was just being pessimistic as I'm sure David knew

That's why I responded with the usual sarcasm rather than taking what you said seriously!

I'm almost certain that the Leafs don't win the cup this year, but there's no reason to believe that they won't be a better team next year solely based on the continued growth of the players they have now.

The sooner Nylander is out, the better, in my opinion. Before the season started, I was in the "give Nylander what he wants" camp, mostly because I figured he was an integral part of the team, but looking now at how the team has performed without him, I don't see what he can really add more when if anything the team's only weakness is defense.

Ideally they trade him for a defenceman. That's probably the best case scenario that provides the biggest benefit to the team and probably saves some cap space overall. Obviously I'd rather he sign than sit out the whole season, but he hasn't even been that good in the playoffs anyway and that's where the Leafs would need the most help.

The only side that really loses by him sitting out the year is his at this point.
