You generally have a stat advantage cause of how the forts work and can pick when to pick a fight because of the weird terrain and passive enemy AI. Arena is more about not getting anyone killed and funneling kills into your bonus unit. This mode is hitting the objectives of killing their dangerous units, killing their aethers, often while leaving one of their less dangerous units alive you do these things, all in 7 turns.
