Every character spawned at the start date has a birthday on January 1st, and then however many years ago they were born. Erika is 33, young enough to still bear an heir. Which is the first thing I need to do! There arent many options for a women looking to marry matrilineally. I did notice one of the Slavic shamans was Quick, which is tempting because that is a genetic trait that could be passed down to our children, but I want a man who will be at home with me practicing the Germanic faith. We praise Odin in this house, not Jarilo! I like to spawn a few men and women to join my court and then take my pick of the best men. I then marry off the remaining just in case they decide to have kids who can populate my court and possibly marry my heirs later if theres nothing better. The winner of this round was the first man I generated, a fellow by the name of Sverker of Tukums. He is Midas Touched, a Gardener, Patient, and Zealous. Good traits for this playthrough. Hes also Cruel and Slothful, but hey, we arent all perfect. Generating some more people for my court has the added benefit of bringing in some people who may have great stats and will make good counselors. Im actually disappointed I dont have a great Marshal. The best I got was an 11. Ill generate some commanders once I get more prestige (I took a prestige hit when I got married because he was a nobody). I sent my Chancellor to get cozy with Sigurdr Ring, the King of Uppland. This guy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigurd_Hring His son Ragnarr is 2, and I suspect hell have more kids to come. I would like to marry one of my kids to Ragnarr, if I have a daughter to spare later. I dont plan on fighting Sigurdr or his family any time soon and I think they could be powerful allies in the near future. The Marshal is training troops because I need all the troops I can muster. This early in the game, every body with a beating heart counts. My Steward is building my legend and for once I actually want both the effects of that choice: prestige and a chance to spawn some warriors. Again, every able body helps. My Spymaster isnt really needed at the moment and she hates me anyway because shes Envious. I threw her at Constantinople to steal their technological secrets. Having my Seer raise Zeal is dangerous because I dont want to raise holy warriors. Im gonna fight some of my fellow Norse Germanics. Instead, I just had Hunt Apostates, which is also dangerous because hell try to accuse anyone in my court of being a witch, but its up to chance. If he becomes annoying, Ill have him go do something else. I chose the Hunting focus for the Martial bonus and the Health bonus. Im already 33 and no kids, so I think I need all the Health I can get to survive pregnancy. Because I took this lifestyle, I occasionally went hunting for the white bear which is rumored to live in the woods nearby. Looking around at nearby counties, Nidaros to the north looks juicy. It has 3 holding slots. The ruler is evenly matched with me troop-wise, but I think Ill get a bit more once time passes since I bumped up my Martial stat. I may take Frde and Sogn to the south in the meantime to help swell up my land. Plus, those two counties are part of my de jure duchy, Vestlandet. If I can get a duchy, thatll help in case I get a second heir. Oh yeah, did I mention the Norse start with fucking Elective Gavelkind? Because they do ugh.
