okay I haven't really gotten strong opinions either way, and thinking about it a bit myself I THINK I'd prefer to do things the first way. this will prevent us from getting a bunch of bad/mediocre/boring characters at the start (the low rankings) and then a bunch of the best ones all crammed into the end of the topic (all the highest rankings).

if I go ahead and post my impressions as I go through the list, we should mostly see a list of good, bad, and funny write ups along the way.

(and I'll be doing a few after I get back from the gym tonight -- sometime before 11)
