Let's all just be honest for a minute; writing was never, ever Diablo's strong suit. I mean, hell, the title character and his comrades basically had their names drawn from a mythology hat. It was fun and cool in a 'aesthetics over substance', cartoony sort of way, but what we loved was the gameplay and that's fine.

I loved the writing in D1 and D2, so no.

Or maybe less writing than ambience but the story and cutscenes in D2 were infinitely better.
