Yeah, um the BMW was bought in 2011, and sold in 2016 (5 years later) and halved in value (and getting that required a private sale ...it was 1/3rd in value to most dealerships).

I won't even consider buying a new car again after that...just not worth it.

Rather get one that is used, but not too used, and has good resell value.

But for right now, just want something not too expensive I can go on trips with:)

Few years old is best. But a new vehicle has warranty and no one has abused the vehicle. Pros and cons to both.

Yeah, I even considered leasing but then did my research on it...and doesn't look like a good option. New though, drops a ton in value right away...which kinda defeats the purpose (saving money on hotels). I don't care about status etc, just want a reliable car. New is just too much cost for no real gain (to me).

What i would love is a 2012-2014 car that is comfy but has seats that fold down...for 10k or less, and with less then 50-60k miles. Doubt i'll find anything like that, but I got my Avalon (was such a great car) in 2002 (was a 1999 toyota avalon XL) for 10k. It's possible to get something like that, but you gotta be lucky.

Maybe look into a 2012ish Subaru Forester...
