The new Star Trek show had great opening numbers but it was still considered a commercial disaster because people gave up on the show early. Lucky for the show, the entire first season was funded by Netflix who are now feeling royally scammed, so they are still making a 2nd season since it was a 0 risk endeavor for CBS.
