depends on the situation, if you just want a discount or an item it absolutely does. Especially at a chain store. If you want a service or need someone to work on something to get it then being nice but insistent is the better way, but being a dickwill absolutely still work as well. Just on thursday my boss was ok with sending me out to borrow my brother's truck, to deliver a refrigerator we are going to loan a couple for a week because the factory or warehouse it was shipping from got delayed because they couldn't wait until our delivery team was in the next day. So because someone made a big stink we are losing

$26 in my pay
$18 for an associate to help me move the appliance
$100 for marking down the now used appliance
$50 to the delivery team to make a special trip to pick up the used appliance after the vendor delivers the new one.
$45 off his order because the guy wanted something for the inconvenience of having to come into the store.
Plus down 2 associates on a busy day which caused issues for other customers.

So we are out almost $250 on a not even $500 order that we were probably only making $150 off of in the first place because we just sell the appliance for the vendor and get a small kick back. on top of that when the order does get delivered the customer may contact the vendor and may be eligible for further discounts because the delay was the vendor's fault.

To compare the nice customer in the same situation only got told that the vendor would probably compensate them when it gets delivered.
