first x-men isn't awful, it's just kind cheesy when compared to today. it's still really good though.

there's a certain "flavor" those movies had with the really basic lighting and camera work coupled with shakey screenwriting and hammy acting

that's kind of what was going on with Venom. which isn't a death sentence, it's just that this is 2018, you can do so much more.
