The first signs of Pokemon's resurgence actually happened in 2006 where it lost to Metroid in a somewhat close match during the Series Contest. This resurgence happened during a time when Diamond/Pearl was only months away from being released in Japan (and a few months later in the US/Canada). Pokemon's real strength wouldn't become apparent until the 2009 games contest. As for the Pokemon Let's Go games, there is actually very little hype for those games among the hardcore fans.
