What was the point of that blue echo/light effect that happened a few times during the movie? Why did the husband burn when Annie burned the sketchbook? Why/how did Annie become possessed in the end? She was literally crawling on the ceiling Great movie, and if the ending is all there is to it, I'm fine with that. But it just feels like mental illness plays a much bigger role and there's actually something else going on Like somebody else said, I think the mental illness angle is all a red herring to lead you away from the actual occult happenings. The movie is uneven because the spooky shit doesn't start until so late in the movie, but when it does it gets laid on super thick. The blue light is heavily implied to be the spirit of the grandmother, who's been hanging around because the ritual performed on her body in the attic.
