But...unfortunately, it sounds like she's getting her job back: http://observer.com/2018/08/nasa-internship-homer-hickam-twitter/

Once he found out that Naomi lost her internship offer, the two connected and apologized to each other.

After talking to her, I am certain she deserves a position in the aerospace industry and Im doing all I can to secure her one that will be better than she lost, Hickam wrote. I have also talked to the folks that had to do with her internship and made absolutely certain that there will be no black mark on her record.

So thanks to Hickam, it looks like Naomis sky (in October and beyond) will be bright. But hopefully shell watch what she says on social media from now on.

Why does the modern world hate natural selection so much?

Honestly it seemed like a pretty weak reason to get fired in the first place. Her "insult" was crude, but really more of an expression of excitement and enthusiasm that she got accepted to NASA in the first place (and one that's not exactly out of place given the general tone of Twitter). It was a stupid thing to do, certainly, but not exactly something I'd consider a fireable offence. Should have warranted a stern talking-to by HR at most.

It's an internship. Pissing somebody off is a perfectly valid reason for having it canceled.

Sadly, discrimination is very narrowly defined by law. There are plenty of groups and hobbies that people in them can completely stupidly and unfairly be denied a job over.
Pretty sure I recall reading a few years back about some employers not hiring people who played online video games like WOW. And not "if they mention it in their resume" (who would?) but the employer would like...search for the hiring candidate's online profiles and if it saw s/he was a gamer, no job. Completely legal...

"Sadly"? You've previously promoted the firing of people whose ideologies you don't like >_>

Again, interns aren't actual employees. The threshold for keeping them onboard is far lower.
