I swear the series has had it in for Gohan ever since they decided to bring Goku back. All the Buu arc buildup was wasted. They gave him nerd glasses to make him look lame. Hes the only one to ever take a massive power loss from not training. Its like they did anything they could to make people not like Gohan. At least hes a better dad than Goku could ever be, but a rock would make a better parent than Goku

It sucks for us fans, but it makes sense for Gohan because Gohan has only ever wanted to be normal. He hates fighting, he only does it because he knows it makes Goku/Piccolo proud, and because he knows he has the power to protect people. He would much rather be how he is now, a stable job and a happy family life, than be like his dad and constantly have to deal with planetary/universal threats. Goku and Vegeta getting repeatedly stronger probably only reinforces that belief that he doesn't need to train because they can take care of it.
