He's the original Captain Marvel from Fawcett Comics, who DC only own because they sued Fawcett Comics out of existence (mainly because they claimed Captain Marvel was a blatant Superman rip-off), and then they lost the trademark on the name because of complications due to Fawcett Comics getting sued out of existence. Basically, DC getting fucked out of being able to use the name is pretty much karmic retribution. They still have the rights to the name, though. They can still call the character Captain Marvel. They just can't use it as a trademark (which means they can't call any comic book he stars in "Captain Marvel"). But because of the confusion that causes, even they just eventually gave up and said "Ehh, fuck it, we'll just call him Shazam from now on." --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ...
