Ya know, it would be awesome having a Martin Luther King movie and letting Channing Tatum play MLK.

You see the issue here now?

The idea is that if you are going to make a movie with transgender people, why not use transgender people? If you use a non-trans woman to play a trans man... and a "bombshell" woman at that, it is the equivalent of saying that trans men are closer to women than who they identify as... men.

There's a great level of disrespect there and that is what pisses off the community.

Not allowing trans people to play trans roles is Hollywood refusing to allow new trans people, or trans people in general to become stars.

There's two sides to that coin. Without star power nobody will watch it to begin with thus nobody else becomes a star.

Well, evangelicals would never watch a transgender movie. Alienating transgender people pulling that move would alienate supporters and actual transgender people. All you have left is the unalligned ScarJo fans.

Black people started somewhere. Hollywood should actively start looking for trans people for trans roles if they are looking to have any kind of trans people in movies. From my gathering, trans people would be far happier not being represented in movies at all if they aren't going to be given respect to the struggles they and we have faced.

That being said, trans men would far rather have as they said, a non-trans man play the role if they absolutely refused to drop the role. Putting a woman up as a trans man as they say, is a slap in the face.

Probably because there are not a lot of transgendered actors that are famous enough (A-listers) to generate the box office movement they need.

Sometimes movies can get away with unknown or little-known actors, but not all that often.

If we don't start trying to make A-list transgender actors and actresses, then how would it ever happen? Hollywood is happy to make millions off of the idea, but is still afraid mostly to get transgender people involved.
