There is no difference since they're synonyms.


Hence "connotations." In the colloquial use, they're not used interchangeably which is why you hear people talking about wanting to rich rather than wanting to be wealthy. People tend to think of doctors and lawyers as wealthy, whereas they think of Hollywood stars as rich.
