Steam has special editions too with OSTs, artwork, etc., etc.

Yes it can. You may have the disc but the disc can be made to stop working in the only machine it works in by license expiry. That disc doesn't protect you from DRM.

Without discs you're paying too much for nothing. As bad as Steam is, there's a reason they have to sell games for 75% off.

The game functions the same with or without a disc, however Steam games are cheaper and the DRM is easier to get around (what with all the data being on your PC, not a copy-protected disc).

My internet went out for a couple days (it was new at the time) and Steam decided that I shouldn't be allowed to play HL2. Well, I decided Valve is no longer relevant to gaming.

My PS3 YLOD'd, so I decided Sony was no longer relevant to gaming. That makes just as much sense.
