It's literally a matter of saying "call me Sarah now instead of Sam," no different than any other name change in terms of the impact on other people. The point is that if you want to change something about yourself, you're the one who has to the compromise, not everyone else to accommodate you. You're acting like it's hard to call someone a different name. And it's not. Just call them what they want to be called... No thanks, I'm good.
