I made it through Case 4 back when I first bought it, and I guess I just wasn't in the mood for AA at that point, so the game got dropped. I did the same with DRv3 and quit after Case 2. I was just thinking over the weekend that I should rectify both of these things, so I started up Case 3 of SoJ, since that was the one whose story seemed to matter. After that, I was reminded there was DLC for this game, so I decided to go do that before doing Turnabout Revolution, since that seems suuuuuuper ominous.

I tried talking to Wigs about it, but he remembers none of this, so I decided to make a topic and see how others felt about the cases I'm going through.

I was not a fan of the DLC. It had a few good moments, but also many downfalls:

- I really wish they'd introduce more characters per case. Instead of there being a fun mystery to solve, it's just "well, there's two new characters, so which one is it?" As soon as Ellen went nuts about Phoenix starting to suspect Sorin, it turned into one possibility.

- Experimenting is discouraged because of ridiculously long animations. I want to show everyone everything, but I can't when Sorin keeps throwing paper airplanes at me and Ellen has to keep making herself back up every time she cries. Stop it.

- Phoenix is especially dumb, for no reason. It felt like I was stumbling through the mystery, rather than methodically piecing it together. On top of that, we start the second day of trial with Ellen telling us multiple times that she would rather be convicted than Sorin. So what does Phoenix do? Indict Sorin for the murder. Then he's surprised when Ellen confesses. Good fucking job, Phoenix. It doesn't even make sense for him to be the culprit. "He wrote down that he struck the victim once in his notebook when this explicitly contradicts both the murder weapon and the autopsy report. There's blood on the inside handle of the lantern, and that couldn't have possibly gotten in there if Sorin was the murderer. BUT WHATEVER I'M NOT IN THE BUSINESS OF FINDING THE TRUE KILLER OR MAKING MY CLIENT HAPPY."

- How much stretching did they have to do to get that Larry picture to work out? That was a fucking pathetic reveal to try and tie time travel further into the case. That said, I enjoyed Larry overall in this case. Disregarding his picture, he was very entertaining.

Other positives:

- Good to great villain. Nichody was very calculated and kept things rough for you the entire case. I especially liked his pleading of the fifth immediately after you indict him for the murder. He knows how you work and talking is likely only going to tighten his own noose. I kinda want to go back and rewatch some of his dialogue, though, because I'm pretty sure the game conveniently "forgot" some Psyche-Locks in there. I distinctly remember him talking about Selena's fiance and that he didn't know where he was now, for one.

- The other references to time travel. Sorin talking about knowing a time traveler, when he had his 50 First Dates thing going on was pretty well done. And while Nichody's time-stopping shtick wasn't as good, it was still fine.

I've purposefully avoided any SoJ discussion the past 2 years, since I never finished it. I mainly wanted to put my thoughts out there, because I want to know what the consensus is on the game. And I didn't want to risk posting in the AA topic so I don't see anything for the case or cases I haven't played yet.

So far, none of the cases have stood out to me. I recall the consensus on b8 being SoJ is better than DD, but I think I'd rate every case in DD higher than SoJ's counterpart, other Case 1, which is whatever.
