Somewhat. However, even people in professional, white collar jobs aren't necessarily great typists (albeit mostly boomers). It's certainly a benefit for most professional careers, but I'm not sure that it's important. People can certainly get by without it. And, if you work in a non-professional capacity, you likely won't have much need for it. The bulk of blue-collar and low-end jobs don't even involve computers.
