If you've seen Kill La Kill or Space Patrol Luluco, you should know by know that using (what seems like at first) mindless fanservice as a metaphor for a bigger message is one of Trigger's biggest trademarks. Kill La Kill turned out absolutely amazing after it was originally written off as mindless fanservice, and after this most recent episode, Darling in the Franxx has a decent chance to reach those heights, or at least close.
