But, you know, you've gotta protect the sanctity of marriage by not letting them gays marry. That'd just be awful. The family values wing of the party -- along with most wings -- didn't want Trump to represent their party, though, and went to unprecedented lengths to block him. Even when he was the party's candidate, you still had ranking Republicans trying to tank him.
